This has been the first weekend where I’ve stayed in Lilongwe to read, relax and catch up on work. I’m enjoying more and more what Lilongwe has to offer.

On Saturday, I met up with the Lilongwe Photoclub bright and early. This month’s theme was ‘African Markets’, so several of us worked our way around the maze of stalls in the Old Town Market, taking photos of everything – from fresh fruits and vegetables, to car and bike parts, to live chickens, to dried fish, to the brightly colored chitenjes. I continuously marveled at the bustling scene.

I had been nervous about whipping out my camera and snapping away (and somehow, having others around made it seem not nearly as rude), but most people met us with warm friendly smiles! Occasionally you’d have someone who did NOT want to have their photo taken, but they were few and far between. The majority loved the immediate gratification of seeing their photo instantly. I really need to figure out a way to print and send all of these images.

Am getting ready to go back to work (on a Sunday) to prepare for the week ahead. HIV Testing and Counseling Week starts tomorrow – and I’m excited about going to the launch in Balaka. I’ll hopefully have some photos and stories to share of the day’s event.

I’m also working on PEPFAR’s COP report – but am not having too much luck receiving input from the partners. Which just makes my job that much harder…
